Triple Marker Screen Test is also known as Triple Test, Multiple Marker Screening Test & AFP Plus. It is a maternal blood screening test that measure a level of three substances:

  1. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)
  2. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
  3. Estriol
    It analyzes how likely the baby is to have any certain genetic disorder. There is no risk and any kind of side effect to the mother or baby with Triple Marker Screening Test .

When to perform Test?
The Triple Marker Screen Test can be done in between 15 and 20 weeks during pregnancy. The test can only be performed in between given time frame but optimally performed between 16 to 18 Weeks and it said to be the most accurate.

  1. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP):A Protein that produced by fetus. High level of AFP indicates the baby has a neural tube defects like spinal bifida.
  2. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG): Hormone produced by Placenta. Low level of HCG indicates the problem related to the pregnancy, like miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. And high level signs to molar pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy with more than 1 children.
  3. EstriolIt is Estrogen produced in placenta and in the baby liver. And low level indicates risk of Down Syndrome, Edwards Syndrome or another type chromosome abnormality
